Maui County Arrest Records Basics
Criminal records in Maui County fall into four categories: arrest records, court records, conviction records, and incarceration records. Arrest records are created when law enforcement takes someone into custody. They include booking info, charges, and mugshots where available.
These records are kept under HRS 846-2.7, which lays out the framework for Hawaii's criminal history system. Under HRS 92F-12, basic arrest facts like the prosecution, arrest, or formal charging of a person must be disclosed. Agencies maintaining Maui County arrest records include:
- Maui Police Department — 55 Mahalani Street, Wailuku — (808) 244-6400
- Second Circuit Court — 2145 Main Street, Wailuku — (808) 244-2929
- Maui County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney — 150 South High Street, Wailuku — (808) 270-7777
Juvenile records are sealed under HRS 571-84. Expunged records, ongoing investigations, and non-conviction arrest data have limited public access. The line between felonies and misdemeanors follows state law: felonies carry more than one year of possible prison time, while misdemeanors carry less.
Sex offender data for Maui County comes from the Hawaii Sex Offender Registry under HRS 846E-3. The registry includes offender names, aliases, physical descriptions, registered addresses, and conviction info.
